Terms of Service

These Terms govern your access to and use of SpendWise (the "App"). SpendWise is a group-expense-splitting and tracking tool — we do not hold funds, initiate transfers, or act as a payment service provider. By creating an account, joining a group, or otherwise using SpendWise, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the App.

Using the app

SpendWise is provided for personal, non-commercial use to track and split shared expenses among people who know and trust each other — family, friends, roommates, or close colleagues splitting costs for a shared activity, trip, or household. It's not designed for commercial bookkeeping or business accounting. You're responsible for the accuracy of the expense and balance data you enter — SpendWise calculates balances based on what you and your group members record, and isn't a substitute for direct agreement between the people settling up.

Accounts

You may use SpendWise as a Guest (data stored on-device only) or with a full account (email/password, Google, or Facebook). You're responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for the accuracy of the information you provide. You must meet the minimum age for consenting to online services in your country of residence, or have a parent/guardian's consent where required.

Group invite links

Treat a group's invite link as the key to that group. Anyone who opens it can see a preview of the group's name and member list before joining — never expense amounts or balances. Don't share an invite link with anyone outside the group you intend, and don't post it publicly. If you suspect someone unintended has gained access to a link, leave that group, create a new one, and contact us (see below). We aren't responsible for the consequences of an invite link being shared or obtained by someone outside the intended group.

No processing of real transactions

SpendWise does not process payments, hold funds, or transfer money between users. The App only calculates and displays balances based on the expenses entered by members. Any actual payment or settlement — by cash, bank transfer, mobile wallet, or any other means — happens entirely outside SpendWise and is solely between the people involved. We're not a party to, and assume no responsibility for, how or whether that settlement actually happens.

AI Assistant

The AI Assistant helps add and categorize expenses, and answers questions, using an automated language model. It's provided for convenience, can make mistakes, and is not financial, tax, or legal advice — always double-check anything it tells you before relying on it, especially for money you're owed or that you owe.

Subscriptions

Acceptable use

Don't use SpendWise to store unlawful, threatening, abusive, or otherwise objectionable content; to deceive or mislead other group members; to attempt to reverse-engineer or bypass its security or purchase-verification systems; or to interfere with other users' access to the service.

Account & data deletion

You can delete your account and its data at any time from Profile → Account Settings → Delete Account, or by contacting us. Data tied to a group you're a member of may remain visible to other members after you leave, since it's shared data, not solely yours.

Disclaimer & limitation of liability

SpendWise is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, and we don't guarantee it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure at all times. We aren't liable for financial decisions made based on the app's calculations or the AI Assistant's output, for disputes between group members over shared expenses, or for indirect or consequential damages, to the fullest extent permitted by law.

Changes

We may update these terms from time to time; continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.
